Bob Trice was the first African American ball player in the Athletics franchise history. He did this on September 13th, 1953. In 1953 the Athletics played in Philadelphia and were known as the Philadelphia Athletics. They did not come to Oakland until 1968 (Spending a brief period in Kansas City from 1955-1967).
