Who was Fernando Pessoa?

No biographical data, please.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Fernando Pessoa was a poet, and a writer. His father died when he was five, his brother died a year later, and his mother remarried.

"A well staring at the sky."
"I'm all those things, even though I don't want to, in the confuse depth of my fatal sensibility."
"It was just a moment, and I saw myself. Then I no longer could say what I was."

In other words, he was a writer and a poet.

Fernando Pessoa (Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa) was a Portuguese poet, born in Lisbon, that went under several names, personalities and styles (each one of them according to a personality).
Heteronyms:
Alberto Caeiro
Ricardo Reis (Saramago wrote a novel about this one)
Álvaro de Campos
Himself under his own name.

They all had differente worldviews but almost all of them were a bit pessimistic, existentialist or agnostic.

I've read some of his works (including poems for children that were pessimistic and kind of gloomy or creepy).

He was a portugese writer, though if I remember correctly, he didn't do a whole lot. Early 1900s.

He didn't write much and didn't have much sex or friends in his life, as far as I've read. He barely talked to anyone. But, wait... That's biographical antiacademic data.
