The Emmys, which is hosted by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, is made up of 26 groups with members eligible to vote for winners. The peer groups cover the various areas of television expertise, like script writing, scoring, direction, acting, etc. These groups have works that are aired nationally in order to be eligible. Eligibility for the groups varies from group to group. There are more than 15,000 voting members of the Academy, and are led by the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee. In order to apply to become a member and vote, applicants must be 13 years of age or older, actively engaged in production or distribution of television or have been engaged in the field within the last four years or have a significant body of work.
