Who thinks mahalo should calm down with all the borderline spamish monetization and focus on the community?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

By what means do you define "spamish monetization"
As community manager I'd like to think we're doing a great job at focusing on the community.
We have "Answer of the Day" which is a daily contest that highlights the best answers posted on Mahalo. Beyond that we have other contests which Mahaloians are active in.
We have "belt tests" which highlight our most active participants.
We have "Mahaloian of the week" which features the Best of Mahalo.
Throughout the week we have many discussions here on Mahalo Answers about community related issues, staff participates on almost all of them...
We hold two webcasts each week, where good ol @lon sits and speaks to the community for hours on end helping explain how Mahalo works and giving tips on success.
For a community that is under 8 months old, I'd like to think we've done a heckuva job. I don't think I understand what you mean by "spamish monetization." If you mean Mahalo Dollars? They are very real and users have cashed out on many occasions.

M$I'm not sure if I understood the question correctly so I'm adding an alternate answer. If you meant to say, why does Mahalo have topic pages if they are mostly a answers community? Well, like every other website, spanning as much as you can is very important. I mean spanning as in getting larger, not spamming. Ads are just a good way to make a profit.
Mahalo does need to work on ad positioning. There are places that would make more money and at the same time keep members happy.

Hello Jeff,
I hope you didn't take offence, you are doing a great job. All that jazz is lovely.
As for your question:- Auto generated mahalo pages & ad's in unkindly locations like between categories.
What I'm trying to put across is do you think that focusing on tapping community involvement to produce better content would produce better long term results than a bullish advertising strategy?
