Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are great differences of opinion on the beginnings of Punk Rock. I believe that the genre evolved from raw garage bands like the MC5 and The Stooges and “glam rock” bands like Marc Bolan (T-Rex) and David Bowie. The early pioneers of the genre were artists like the Ramones, in New York City, and the Sex Pistols and The Clash in London.

The first real punk scene developed in lower Manhattan in the early 1970’s and centered on a club called CBGB. The Ramones, The New York Dolls, Talking Heads, The Sex Pistols and The Velvet Underground all performed at CBCB in the early seventies.

Although London didn’t have a single focal point a vibrant Punk scene developed there also in the early 1970’s. This was driven by acts like the Sex Pistols, David Bowie, The Clash with Joe Strummer, and later by Elvis Costello.
