Diabetics whose legs are prone to swelling and poeople who are prone to getting blood clots, edema, and blood pooling in the legs and feet from prolonged periods of sitting or inactivity should wear the gradient compression stockings, and these can be bought at your local drug-store. They are used to help aid poor circulation.
Anti-embolism compression stockings are used to support the venous and lymphatic systems of the leg (people with varicose veins).
They also help prevent blood clots after surgery. I had to wear one for 3 days after my knee surgery and I'm only 25, so they are not made only for old people.
