Who really created the ''Page Six'' gossip column in the ''New York Post''?

James Brady who recently passed away claims he created the gossip column, but the ''Daily News'' claims others have also taken credit. I know for sure Brady was the first editor, but who else has taken credit for creating the column?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I couldn't find any reference to anyone other than James Brady as the New York Post Page Six creator, even the ''NY Daily News" said in their January 28, 2009 obituary for Brady, "in 1974, Brady began editing the fledgling tabloid weekly Star and later moved to the New York Post, where he created the gossipy Page Six." (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/01/27/2009-01-27_celeb_columnist_james_brady_80.html)

James Brady passed away on January 26, 2009. The current Page Six editor is Richard Johnson

What confuses me, is the ''New York Post'' obit that says
"In later years, Jim often said Page Six had been his idea. Others have made the same claim. But we'll spot Jim the credit based on his rare human qualities that give Page Six its unique flavor, which remains unduplicated to this day."

Ah, I can see why those comments could cause confusion. Having worked in print publishing, I suspect the original idea may have originated with an unnamed editor and we all know gossip columns have been around as long as there have been newspapers.
