Who pays for what in a wedding?

Where can I find information on who is supposed to pay for which things in a wedding? Do the bride and groom pay for everything if they are over 30?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

In the past the brides parents paid for the wedding, the exceptions would be tuxes, wedding rings and provisions if any for the grooms family or guests who are out of town.

These days the bride and groom pay for most of it except for what the parents volunteer to pay. This is why the finances should be discussed with both sets of parents and the couple.

The ages of the couple could factor in since the parents tend to pay for more when the bride and groom are younger. Older couples should expect to pay more themselves as the parents may be on more of a fixed income as they get older.

Hi @cc_clover! You will find information on who is suppose to pay for thing in a wedding at ourmarriage.com.
Working out for a budget for a wedding is one of the first thing that should be done after the date of the wedding is set. The burden of paying for the wedding has shifted in recent years from the shoulders of the father of the bride to include the groom's family.
There are no concrete and fast rule as to who pays for what but here is a general guideline as to the traditional breakdown.

Traditional breakdown of expenses
*Wedding gown, headpiece and accessories: Bride's family
*wedding ringfor the bride: the Groom
*wedding ring for the groom: the bride
*wedding gift gift for groom: the bride
*wedding gift for the bride: the groom
*bridesmaid gifts: the bride
*groomsmen/usher gifts: the groom
*bride's bouquet: groom
*bridesmaid bouquet: bride's family
*mother's corsages: the groom
*grandmother's corsages: bride's family

**See the complete list on who pays for what at the source.
