I understand your point of view. Oysters are nowhere near as appetizing to the eye as say a perfectly grilled steak. That is not to say that they can't be just as delicious raw. I can personally consume 12 raw oysters simply with lime juice before I start to feel squimish, but on ''Man vs. Food'' Adam Richman successfully consumed 15 dozen!
The key is to not dwell on the consistency and simply enjoy the flavor. Most people have a problem with the gelatinous yet firm texture of the oyster.
One way to ensure you will enjoy a raw oyster is to consume it with alcohol. Alcohol makes everything better! Well, except an alcoholic... Try taking the raw oyster and turning it into an "oyster shooter". There are various ways to prepare an oyster shooter, but essentially you are making a cocktail with raw oyster meat in it. I specifically enjoy the shooters that have worchestershire sauce, lime and hot sauce!
