Aston Martin Lagonda Limited, or simply Aston Martin, is currently owned by a consortium of businessmen led by David Richards, John Sinders and the Kuwaiti shareholding companies Investment Dar and Adeem Investment. David Richards also currently the chairman of Prodrive, a British automotive engineering group that specializes in motorsport.
Aston Martin was acquired from the Ford Motor Company's Premier Automotive Group in March 2007 for a sum of US $848 million. Despite relinquishing full ownership, Ford retains a stake worth about US $70 million in the company. Because of this, Aston Martin is pretty much considered an independent car company, and is no longer just a luxury marque owned by a larger car company.
Under this new management, Aston Martin has exported the assembly of its cars outside of England for the first time in its history. The Rapide, a four door sport saloon and Aston Martin's latest model, is currently being manufactured at the Magan Steyr plant in Graz, Austria.
