The three classic authors you mention are all favorites of mine. I was introduced to science fiction at a very early age by my father and read books by all of them and more.
I also read and enjoyed books by A.E Van Vogt, Robert A.Heinlein, L. Sprague de Camp and Ingo Swann.
Of all of them I would have to say that Arthur C. Clarke is my favorite.
I read and enjoyed his books when I was very young and I have re-read them since. The 2001 series is amazing and also the films but others I really enjoyed are The Fountains of Paradise and Rendezvous with Rama. There are several things that he wrote about that have since become reallity.
Of modern authors, I like China MiƩville very much and his brilliant novel The City & The City won the Arthur C. Clarke Award this year. This is the third time he has won this award and he is the only person to do so.
