This answer is my opinion.

The most important person in the history of science is Madame Marie Curie. Her discovery was that select minerals are radioactive. She was also able to produce new radioactive elements. Radioactive means they emit microscopic particles. Those radioactive particles have been found to be very useful in the medical field for diagnosing and treating various conditions (nuclear medicine).

In addition to her contribution to the development of nuclear medicine treatments for medical conditions, Madame Marie Curie’s death illustrated the risk involved in working with radioactive materials. Radioactive substances have been engineered since then for industrial purposes. It is possible to be around radioactive materials for a long time before dying of cancer or radiation poisoning because of them. Madame Curie’s death forced people, from the beginning, to be careful when working with radioactive substances.
