Who is the most famous Jazz artist?

When someone says "Jazz" which artist comes to mind? Is the most famous Jazz musician still alive? Where can I find a list of Jazz musicians?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Louis Armstrong or Scott Joplin have got to be the answer. Yes, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gilespie, Miles Davis are certainly famous... but Joplin and Armstrong come immediately to mind even to people who don't listen to Jazz or like it.

A lot of people will tell you this artist is the best or that artist is the best... but when it coms to "most famous" the answers are more reasonable. Whom do you think of when you think of Jazz?

Jazz is a very unique form of music. It is a form of music inspired by passion. Jazz was developed in New Orleans in the 20th century. It was developed through a combination of ragtime music and blues music.

Louis Armstrong is just one of the many famous Jazz artists who comes to mind as one of the best of all time. He was born in 1901. He spent most of his childhood very poor. To make money he had to drop out of school when he was very young and join a singing group just to make enough money to get by. He began to play the cornet and joined many bands. He preformed solos in each band he was with. He soon became very famous. His “pebbly” voice became extremely recognized and loved. He died in 1971.

There are many wonderful Jazz artists. www.Jazz.com is a great website to learn about Jazz and Jazz artists. Jazz.com has an entire encyclopedia of Jazz artists. This includes some artists who are alive and some artists who are dead.
