Who is the father of reggae music?

My nephews expect me to know everything. Yesterday while going through my husband’s music collections, they came across some reggae CDs. They where songs by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Winston Rodney, Junior Murvin and many more and asked me who the father of reggae was. I am really not into reggae, but my husband said it could be Bob Marley, but he is not too sure. Can anyone tell me who the father of reggae is and why you consider him as such?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Sme say it was Eric Clapton. A compelling argument.

I would say Bob Marley. The genre never would have left jamaica had it not been for him.
