Who is the best person or company to follow on Twitter and why?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I like to follow people like @ev (http://twitter.com/ev) and @biz (http://twitter.com/biz), two of the guys in charge of Twitter, to see how they use the service. I also follow @BreakingNews (http://twitter.com/BreakingNews) because they give good news updates as they're happening.

Check out influencers in categories you're interested in by using directories like WeFollow (http://www.wefollow.com).

I think the best answer to this is not a name, or a twitter handle. Its what is most relevant to you. Who do you like, what do you like. There is no single dominating answer to this question. Follow people that you are interested in, don't follow people just because they are "microsoft" or "google", unless you are truly interested in what they are doing or going to have to say. I follow a lot of local businesses around my area because they will tweet new items/products/deals that affect me. Go to places like http://twitter.grader.com and find who is local and near to you and follow them.

I like the darthvader suggestion, but the person that I enjoy following the most is Tim O'Reilly. If you're into tech, Tim always links to interesting articles around the web and offers his own insights throughout the week.

For me are @GuyKawasaki and @officialTila (Tila Tequila) , for 2 different reasons.
Guy Kawasaki follows everybody who follows him, Tila Tequila is the only one of the people that has more of 100.000 followers that reply to "normal people".

The "best" person to follow on Twitter depends entirely on what your needs are.

The two most satisfying Twits for me are:

@donttrythis - Is Adam Savage of MythBusters. He is one of the people who is using Twitter brilliantly. He posts all kinds of stuff, but never too much. Posts teasers about upcoming MythBusters episodes, so it plugs the show (where he makes his coin), but does so in a way that provides you with added value. (His Twitter stream is like a MythBusters DVD "Special Features" section.)

@amandapalmer - The musician. She is redefining the music business through her honest and wide-open connection directly to her fans. She Tweets impromptu gigs (to pay rent) and they sell out in minutes. She responds to fans Tweets with new songs. When she saw a group of underage Australian fans were going to be unable to get in to her show, she Tweeted to meet her in a nearby park, and they spent the afternoon playing songs, playing soccer, and hanging out. She is THE game-changer in the music industry right now.

The best person I have found on Twitter is @paidfocusgroups They offer almost hourly updates on new Paid Focus Groups in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

I have found that all of the focus groups are truly legitimate, and offer large compensation (almost always the same day you attend a focus group).

@paidfocusgroups does not send out DM's and Ads which is kind of refreshing.

I don't live near a large city, but the offer online and phone studies that anyone can take, and they mail your check to you.

You can't make a full time job out of focus groups, but you can substantially add to your income and perhaps make a car payment with the extra money.

Anyway, @paidfocusgroups is a good way to make some extra money honestly and quickly.
