Personally, I love Jimmy Page, The Edge of U2, Lindsey Buckingham and Jack White. We can thank Jimmy Page for the double guitar that he came up with for "Stair Way to Heaven" and no one could forget Buckingham's mean picking on "Big Love". What about Carlos Santana? He has a style unlike anyone else, which is was influenced by Reinhardt. Of course there would be a number 1 by votes, but I think it's personal and opinionated to who is really number 1.

Personally, I have tried to get into Hendrix music and just have not been able to do it. Though I do understand that technically speaking he is one of, if not the best guitar player ever. My personal favorite has always been Jimmy Page from the band, Led Zeppelin. Some of their music was just so haunting and that was mostly due to the incredible guitar chords Page laid down.
