Who is the best first baseman of all time?
Many argue that is was Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees. Some are making a case for Albert Pujols, especially if he continues to play at his high standard for the next several seasons. Who else makes the list as possibly the greatest first baseman to ever play Major League Baseball?

There have been a lot of great players to play first base in Major League Baseball. Certainly Albert Pujols could and most likely will go down as the greatest offensive first baseman to ever play the game. He has improved defensively over the years too and won two Gold Glove Awards, in 2006 and 2010. Keith Hernandez has won the most Gold Glove Awards, with 11. Those awards were in consecutive years from 1978 through 1988. Don Mattingly is second in career Gold Glove Awards with 9. He won those with the New York Yankees from 1985 to 1989 and 1991 through 1994. George Scott won 8 Gold Glove Awards and Bill White won 7 Gold Glove Awards. For offense, people mention Lou Gehrig and certainly he is one of the best. His career was cut short but he still hit 493 home runs and had a .340 average and 1995 runs batted in. So far, Albert Pujols has 408 home runs, 1250 rbi's and a .331 average. He is only 31 years old. So barring injuries he will be the best offensive first baseman of all time. If he wins a few more Gold Glove Awards he will be most complete first baseman of all time.
