Shem live for 600 years and had five children. Elam, Asshur, Aram, Arpachshad and Lud. He also was one of the two children(other being Japheth) who "covered the nakedness of their father". This happened because Noah drank to much wine and Ham saw his nakedness and told his other brothers who covered him. Please read Genesis Chapter 9 Verses 20-24
Due to the curse of Canaan (Ham's son), it is stated that he would be Shem and Japheth servant.
