I stand corrected, now that the differently spelled "Sato Masuzawa" has been discovered on IMDB. Still, he did more than just discuss gay rights: he DID take some of his time on stage to thank people, and just decided not to include his wife or Harvey Milk himself.
He didn't thank his wife/children/parents/God etc. because he didn't want to use the time on stage to do that, instead he wanted to talk about gay rights. He said this on Oprah on Monday's show. It's not a "pet name", Sata is his assistant.
