Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Lemony Snicket is the pen name use by Daniel Handler in writing his books for children. Daniel Handler was born on Feb. 28, 1970 in San Francisco. His mother was an opera singer and his father a CPA. His father fled Germany as a youth and related stories to Daniel about the Holocaust. Daniel was acutely aware that children are not exempt from life's injustices.

When Mr. Handler was researching his book, "Basic Eight", he contacted a number of right-wing organizations in order to receive literature about their beliefs, and when asked to whom to send the books, he quickly made up the name Lemony Snicket.

Mr. Handler wrote three books under his real name: "Basic Eight", "Watch Your Mouth", and "Adverbs".

There are 13 books in the Lemony Snicket "Series of Unfortunate Events." They are:

The Bad Beginning · The Reptile Room · The Wide Window · The Miserable Mill · The Austere Academy · The Ersatz Elevator · The Vile Village · The Hostile Hospital · The Carnivorous Carnival · The Slippery Slope · The Grim Grotto · The Penultimate Peril · The End

Mr. Handler resides in San Francisco.

If you would like to contact Lemony Snicket, you can write to him at:

HarperCollins Children's Books

Daniel Handler was born in San Francisco, California (born February 28, 1970) is an author, screenwriter and accordionist. He is best known for his work under the pen name Lemony Snicket.
Snicket is the author of several children's books, serving as the narrator of A Series of Unfortunate Events (his best known work) and appearing as a character within the series. Because of this, Lemony Snicket is both a fictional character and a real person. This article deals primarily with the character.
The 13 novels in the series relate the hard-luck history of the Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny. Snicket narrates their piteous adventures and misfortunes at the hands of evil Count Olaf, a master of disguises and truly bad actor. The first book in the series, The Bad Beginning, was published in 1999. It was followed by 12 more books with titles such as The Miserable Mill and The Carnivorous Carnival; the final book in the series, The End, was released on 13 October 2006. (In keeping with the tone of the series, that day was a Friday the 13th.) Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, a 2004 feature film based on the books, starred Jim Carrey and featured appearances by Meryl Streep, Jude Law, and many other celebrities. Handler is a longtime resident of San Francisco, and his style has been compared to Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.. He also has published novels for older teens and adults, including The Basic Eight (1999) and Watch Your Mouth (2000).
