Who is a geologist? What is geoscience all about? What areas of study are covered under ti?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

A geologist is a scientist who studies the solid and liquid matter that constitutes the Earth and terrestrial planets. Geologists usually engage studying geology, and approach this using physics, chemistry and biology as well as other sciences.

Earth science (also known as geoscience, the geosciences or the Earth Sciences), is an all-embracing term for the sciences related to the planet Earth. There are four major disciplines in earth sciences, namely geography, geology, geophysics and geodesy.

It appears that this response may have been directly cut and pasted - if so - use this quoting convention to distinguish text that is from the original source:

---quote---
text from source (even wikipedia).
---end quote---

This helps readers know which words are your original response and what comes from the sources you have referenced, thanks!

Geologists study the composition, processes, and history of the Earth. They try to find out how rocks were formed and what has happened to them since their formation.

For example, petroleum geologists map the subsurface of the ocean or land as they explore the terrain for oil and gas deposits. They use sophisticated instrumentation and computers to interpret geological information. Engineering geologists apply geologic principles to the fields of civil and environmental engineering, offering advice on major construction projects and assisting in environmental remediation and natural hazard-reduction projects.
