Who invented photography?

Why did Victorians take photos of the deceased when they were laid out in a casket? How big were the first cameras?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You can find out a lot about the history of photography online. There are also a number of museums you can visit to learn about photographic history. One of the best is the George Eastman House in Rochester New York. Another great museum that takes you through the history of photography is the Photography Museum in Antwerp, Belgium. Check out the resources link below to find a museum close to you.

Photo.net’and Wikipedia have really good accurate timelines and basic history of Photography. You have to be careful about using online resources however. Most will tell you that Photography was “invented” in the 1800’s, which is not true. Photography is the culmination of a number of inventions that date back to the time of the ancient Greeks. "Photography" is derived from the Greek words photos ("light") and graphein ("to draw"). The camera obscura was invented in China and stimulated other inventors to try to record what the camera projected.

Photography was first done by a Frenchman named Joseph Nicephore Niepce in the year 1827. he used a device known as a camera obscura or a pinhole. He was not behind the invention of the camera obscura. Many others used it before as a tool for viewfinder or drawing but he was the first man to use it for creating a photographic image. At his time, people called his productions “heliographs” because sunlight was used to draw them.

For complete history, please refer the source. Hope it helps.
