Nope. Click on the links. They're actual from Central/South America and the Spanish brought them to Europe. Europeans (including England) hated them and the only reason the Irish got them was to survive famine. The history of the spud is a cool little story.
Actually the french and the Belgiams both argue over who invented FF's. The Belgiums claimed to have sold them in street cart back in the 1800's. The firt real refrence to it was in Dicken's Tale of Two Cities in the mid 1800's.
You are mistaken. Don“t confuse Potato with French Fries. Yes Potato, comes from South America, in particular from Peru. But French Fries which are a prepared food is another thing.
