who invented bifocal eye glasses?

Tip for best answer: M$0.37
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to our very own Mahalo page about Benjamin Franklin and our Eyeglasses page Benjamin Franklin was the person who invented Bifocals. I love using Mahalo as the source. So both our sources say Benjamin Franklin. Glad to see that our pages match and we are keeping the information straight.

In 1784, Benjamin Franklin invented a bifocal lens with the top half for viewing at distance and the bottom half for reading.

While you appropriately included a source for your answer, you didn't place your copy-and-paste answer in quotation marks. Please see Copy and Pasting on Mahalo for guidelines for how to incorporate citations in your answer.
