who got the nobel prize in medicine 2009

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Carol W. Greider of Baltimore's Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Elizabeth Blackburn of the University of California, San Francisco, and Jack Szostak of Harvard won the 2009 Nobel Prize in medicine.

They won the price for discovering a key mechanism in the genetic operations of cells, an insight that has inspired new lines of research into cancer.
The three of them were able to solve the mystery of how chromosomes that carry DNA protect themselves from degrading when cells divide.
Included in the Nobel citation said that the laureates found the solution in the ends of the chromosomes, a feature called telomeres that are often compared to the plastic tips at the end of shoe laces that keep those laces from unraveling.

The 2009 Nobel Prize for medicine has been announced! It has been awarded to researchers Elizabeth Blackburn, her student Carol Greider and Jack Szostak for studying the way chromosomes are protected and for discovering the ‘immortality enzyme’ telomerase.
