Who do you think were the most influential or revolutionary bands or music artists from the 60s?

Of course we’re aware that the 1960s were such a mindblowing time as far as changes in philosophy , lifestyle, and social norms were concerned. The Vietnam War raged, the Cold War emerged, John F. Kennedy spoke, and the African-American civil rights movement exploded. Meanwhile, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Jimi Hendrix, and many many more, sang about everything they were seeing and doing and feeling.

What music artists do you think most represent the counterculture – or just the era – for you? And why?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Let me give a shout out to The Kinks.

-- Quote

The Kinks slipped into rock history through the back door. All of those great albums that we talk about now, like Face to Face and Village Green -- nobody bought those records in the Sixties. But those of us who love those records -- and a lot of us are musicians -have loved them for more than thirty years.

Not only did the Kinks influenced bands like the Who, the Jam, the Pretenders, REM, Green Day, Oasis, Blur or singers like David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Bob Geldof but also movie directors like Wim Wenders, Wes Anderson

The Beatles, no doubt, but there were so many other great bands around at that time, that it's so hard to pick just a few. Along with all of the above mentioned bands, you have to include the Moody Blues (perfect get high music), Janis Joplin (women's movement), and Sly and the Family Stone (better race relations). And the Animals, Simon and Garfunkel, Donovan, Van Morrison, Santana, The Allman Brother Band....................

I would have to say it was The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Elvis that were the most influencial during the 60's and 70's.
This was a time when music was changing drastically for the young generation from crooning, big bands and country music to music that was considered immoral. Music was becoming more entertaining as the artists let themselves "feel" the music and let it guide them. Rock and roll was at its beginnings and set the stage for many years to come.

Of course we’re aware that the 1960s were such a mindblowing time as far as changes in philosophy , lifestyle, and social norms were concerned. The wars in Congo, Biafra, Kashmir, the Indian-Chinese border, Palestine and the Sahara raged, the Cold War depressed Europe, Charles de Gaulle, Harold Wilson, Golda Meir and Kruschev spoke, and the identity politics movement exploded. Meanwhile, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Serge Gainsbourg, Kyu Sakamoto, and many many more, sang about everything they were seeing and doing and feeling.

It was a wide wide world. As for "revolutionary" and "influential" bands of the time, then it has to be The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys and John Mayall.

You do make a delicious copypasta internazionale, whereas I only started off with just the simplest MeetQuestionGuidelines-n-cheese. However I'm not sure if I'm supposed to upvote this dish, as per what Mahalo is supposed to be looking for. Y'know how it is. Sorry Jakking :( But thanks for participating.

I have to admit, there is something just a little offputting about the aroma of copypasta in which I can see the remains of what I made for dinner yesterday.... it's just a psychological thing. Not saying I don't like what you did with it. :)

Copypasta with an international flavour as opposed to the rather restricted diet suggested earlier.
