Who do you think is the funniest person dead or alive?

Can be a celebrity, someone in your family, etc. No one who you think is dumb, and it's funny to make fun of them. I'm talking genuinely makes you laugh. Mine is Ellen DeGeneres. I've never laughed harder from anyone else's stand up routines more than hers. Photos/videos included will be looked upon kindly :-)

You got to give it to Rodney Dangerfield. He is not alive, yet his website http://www.rodney.com still lives on. He is best known for the catchphrase "I don't get no respect" and his monologues on that theme. He was one of the greatest comedians! Just watch his video, seeing is believing!

Agreed. Very, very funny and he really packs in a lot of jokes. Stand-ups now seem so alike because they're all trying so hard to be "edgy". It's as if they're trying to out-edgy each other! Shouting and swearing and being outrageous can be funny, but it can also get kind of old. Rodney was great because he had an original wit.

Thanks! I believe he was the greatest comedian ever, and he will be forever missed, yet will live forever online. Definitely an original!

I thought Robin Williams was losing his touch and then I heard his latest comedy bit on George W... (I don't mean to insult anyone who likes Bush), But Robin was as good as I've ever heard him... every line was a belly laugh.

Eddie Izzard in his Dress to Kill special, perhaps one of the funniest stand-up specials I've ever seen. He kind of spent it all in one special, and hasn't reached the same height since then.

While I agree with many of the above answers, I've got to say Christopher Titus.

Since you said alive or dead, I have to go very old school & say Mark Twain. "By temperament, which is the real law of God, many men are goats and can't help committing adultery when they get a chance; whereas there are numbers of men who, by temperament, can keep their purity and let an opportunity go by if the woman lacks in attractiveness."

Of the contemporary people, I'd say George Carlin: "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac? "

And my current man crush, Jon Stewart, "I celebrated Thanksgiving in an old-fashioned way. I invited everyone in my neighborhood to my house, we had an enormous feast, and then I killed them and took their land."

Mitch Hedberg!
I can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet.
Here are some of my favorite lines...

I used to do drugs. I still do drugs. But I used to, too.

I like to hold the microphone cord like this, I pinch it together, then I let it go, then you hear a whole bunch of jokes at once.

I wanted to buy a candle holder, but the store didn't have one. So I got a cake.

A severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer

I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

Fettucini alfredo is macaroni and cheese for adults

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality

Hit the link for more awesomeness!

My favorite has got to be Lewis Black. I love his standup specials on HBO and Comedy Central and he is always funny on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Either him or George Carlin

Least favorite: Robin Williams

It's got to be Conan O'Brien. He's so funny when he takes people from the audience to go down to Rockefeller Plaza. I'm so glad that he's taking over the Tonight Show soon. I can't describe very well how funny he is, so I'll just let this video do the talking:

My dad. He cracks me up everyday, unintentionally. I bought him a bluetooth headset for Christmas. He called me earlier today and this is how the conversation went:
Dad: Hey, I think I lost my tooth.
Me: ummm...what are you talking about? you lost your tooth?
Dad: you know...the tooth thing you got me for my cell phone. Do you know where it is?
Me: Oh, your bluetooth? Look in the office.
Dad: ok bye.

5 minutes later, I receive a text from him that says: "Found my tooth!"

He also called me one day to ask how much it would cost to have eBay installed on his computer.

Note: He does not do things like this to be funny, nor is he stupid. He is just really clueless about technology. haha

Bob Newhart - since it takes humor and brains to entertain with nothing but you on stage (or even in other media). Try listening to the Driving Instructor or The Cruise of the U.S.S. Codfish without almost falling on the floor in tears, laughing.

John Stewart is a funny guy. "The Daily Show" really cracks me up with political satire. The good thing about him is that he can switch from serious to hilarious.

Here's a clip of him about his thoughts on the automobile industry's bail out.

I like both Ellen Degeneres and Eddie Izzard.

I recently discovered a really funny stand up commedian named Gabriel Iglesias. You may have seen him on Comedy Central. Best of all, he doesn't use profanity in his routine. I so appreciate this - there's too much of that going around nowadays.

The podcaster George Hrab is one of the funniest people alive, IMHO.

It helps that he and I have a similar knowledge base--he's a geek, likes Star Trek the Next Generation and is a foodie.

But his comedy is very innovative, because he doesn't have to worry about censorship. Yet his comedy's also very classic, like old school radio sketches, with a liberal dose of vulgarity.

The other thing is that, since he's somewhat small time, he is very interactive with his listeners. So you feel more like a friend than a fan. Pretty cool.
