hen give me your reasoning. Shula had lots of wins because he coached for lots of years. My own pick for the best NFL coach ever is Tom Landry. I pick Landry because of his iconic status as well as his won loss record as an NFL coach. Tom Landry was also versatile in the fact that he spent time as both the offensive and defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. Landry also invented the 4-3 defense.

That's hard to say. I think maybe the top five coaches are all pretty even. I would definitely put Bill Belichick right up there. .617 win-loss percentage , .75 win-loss percentage in playoffs, and he led the Patriots to THREE superbowl championships within 4 fours years. I'd say that's pretty good.

And the Pats did win after the era of super elite franchises was supposed to be over. Of course they were caught cheating though.
