However, Lenormand was not the inventor of the parachute. Leonardo da Vinci imagined and sketched this idea centuries before, and Faust Vrancic (http://www.croatians.com/INVENT-PARACHUTE-VRANCIC.htm ) reportedly built and used a rigid parachute based on da Vinci's design, jumping from a Venice tower in 1617, 166 years before Lenormand.

I'm not aware of earlier sketches of parachutes, though it is possible that someone in China may have independently imagined and sketched one, possibly earlier than da Vinci.
Were there other Parachute sketches by other designers prior to Da Vinci's sketch?
