Who developed Bing?

And when did it first start?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hey :)

The Microsoft Corporation is the developer of Bing. Bing stands for “Because It’s Not Google” and, as the name suggests, it is currently trying to lock horns with Google (Many think it's fighting a losing battle :P). Bing was introduced by the CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer on May 28, 2009. The unveiling took place at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego.

Bing started off with a preview release on June 1, 2009. It became fully operational two days later, on June 3, 2009.

Bing is the modern avatar of much older search engines. Bing was formerly MSN Search (1998), and then it morphed into Windows Live Search (2006) and later just Live Search (2007). Bing currently powers Yahoo! Search after Microsoft and Yahoo etched a deal on July 29, 2009.
