Android is an open source operating system for mobile devices developed by Android Inc. few years back. It is now owned by Google because in 2005, they bought Android. Android is actually built based on modified version of Linux kernel while iPhone’s iOS was derived from Mac OS X.
Google and some Open Handset Alliance members joined efforts on the continuation of development of Android. Unveiling of Android happened in 2007 when Open Handset Alliance was founded where 79 telecom companies, software and hardware organizations committed on improvement of open standards for mobile gadgets. By 2010, the demand for Android based phones in the US as well as in the other parts of the globe rises.
As of today, developers are still working hard to keep Android on getting better. Right now, the latest Android for mobile called Gingerbread or Android 2.3 was released last December 2010. A new Android OS for tablet was also announced. It is called Honeycomb or Android 3.0. Several tablet computer unveiled during the CES 2011 uses this Honeycomb OS.
