Who are your favorite "home-town" bands?
A couple of my favorite examples are posted below:
Devil to Pay
Don Bodin
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$At one point in the show, The Rev will stand up on the bass and rock your FACE off!!!
And maybe you've heard of the Toadies? They started out here - in fact, I had a beer with the lead singer Todd before a show. I had NO idea who he even was and he struck up a convo with me about Shiner Bach beer and how good it was. Suddenly he looks up and goes, "Oh crap! I'm late!" shook my hand and then ran up on stage and started rockin!! Awesome time that!
Texas music is awesome.

M$Hi thomas_k, not a bad band, Lift to Experience. Especially enjoying the mutton chops on the lead singer!
Part A: Reverend Horton Heat: When I first saw your post, I though to my self... self... Irish Stephen is from Indiana? They were a staple on the Indiana circuit, with Phish often I believe (another band I thought was actually from Indiana).
Part B: The Toadies: You ever have a band that you select one day to be your favorite band of all time... then gradually forget about them... then go to Mahalo.com and see a post about said band and realize that you need to do some music shopping to replace that CD you lost a few years back??? Short version: Possum Kingdom ROCKS!!!! as do the Toadies in general.
Not often I am jealous of people for living in Texas, but this is one of these times.

I got into a Texas band a few years back, Lift to Experience, they seem to mention the state a lot in their songs too!
This song is worth checking out, a real journey
Yeah, we're partial to talkin about our home state down here!
I like this - I'm gonna have to check out what else they put out.
The chops are pretty serious . . . and Texas music definitely deserves a bit more recognition!
@briansan - I had no idea The Rev was so big up there! I knew they toured a lot, but didn'
t know other people would know what I was taliing about! That's awesome...
And yeah, we're pretty lucky here as far as music goes. If you ever get to Texas, go to Austin - it's the live music capitol of the South (if not the US). Everyone goers thru there...
Rory Gallagher has been a hugely influential guitarist, and a man called Cathal Coughlan (through his work with the bands Microdisney and Fatima Mansions, and his solo career) has a cult following in a number of countries, but of the bands that are still actually knocking around my home city, I would go for Fred and The Frank and Walters.
Fred have finally had some success outside of Cork (and things are starting to happen for them internationally) after years paying their dues around the city's venues, while the Franks are spending most of their time at home now, after having a little success in the UK and Europe during the 1990s.

M$If you had a girl in Flint in the early 70's, she was SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL. this song is so "Flint" it makes me miss the old place.

M$There's a specific East Bay band with a very unique bass player Les Claypool. Primus changed our expectations of the bass. Their sound is one of a kind. No matter how far they'd travel on the road... they'd always come back home and do a show in Berkeley.
I even had a Chocolate Lab that I named 'Mud' after this song.

M$Big Primus fan. Saw them in concert in Indianapolis quite a few years ago, but wasn't aware that the true fans screamimg "Primus Sucks!" was actually a compliment to the band. (I started yelling at them to shut up..)

I worked at the Charles Dickens Christmas Faire with the lead singer, Lief Sorbye.
I was at the band's very first show in Berkeley CA in 1988.
I was on their US Mail list for years, and attended many shows while I lived up there.
They performed at my friend's New Year's Eve party in 1990 and 1991.
I also really love their music!
They now perform around the world and have 12 CDs published.
"Tempest the BEST CELTIC ROCK band in the World plays WIZARDS WALK at the Sonora Celtic fair march 2008. The best rendition ever, with lots of soloing, jamming, and irish dancers, and frivolity."

Me Likey! Lead singer has a great voice, not to mention their "Indiana Connection" (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) Thanks for the answer.
