Who are the top five defensive players in College Football in 2010?
The last NFL Draft saw quite a few defensive players go very early in the first round. That means that a lot of the top defensive players in the country have left the college game and moved to the pros. Entering the 2010 season, who do you think are the top five best defensive players in the game? These can be players we’ve obviously all heard of, or some dark horse candidate you’ve watched play but hasn’t gotten much national attention yet. Also can obviously be from any school, but let’s keep it to Division 1-A(FBS)

What I did in answering this is look at overall defensive perfomance. I picked a few guys great in sacks, interceptions, tackles and just overall ability and contribution. Having said that, here is my top five, in no particular order.
Jeremy Beal, 6' 3", 261 pounds, defensive end for the Oklahoma Sooners. Beal had 66 tackles, 11 sacks, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles in 2009.
Brian Lainhart, 6' 1", 207 pounds, defensive back for Kent State. He had an impressive 2009 season with 89 tackels, 7 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles.
Greg Jones, 6' 1", 228 pounds linebacker for the Michigan State Spartans. What stood out about Jones is his large number of tackles last season. He had 153 tackles and on top of that, 9 sacks from the linebacker position.
DeAndre McDaniel, 6' 1", 210 pounds, safety from Clemson. McDaniel had 98 tackles, 2 sacks, 8 interceptions and 1 touchdown. He has shown to be a complete defensive player who can do it all.
Von Miller, 6' 3", 240 pounds, defensive end and linebacker from Texas A&M. Miller lead the nation as a junior with 17 sacks and also added 43 tackles.
