The San Diego Padres are a MLB ( Major League Baseball) team who have been in San Diego since 1969. They were almost sold to a potential owner in 1974 from Washington D.C. but instead were sold to the owner of the McDonald’s franchise instead, Ray Kroc. The amazing thing is Topps, who makes Baseball Cards, printed cards for that year calling some of the players as being on the team of the “ Washington National League.“ That would be a great baseball card to own today! They have never won a World Series, but have won their National League Pennant race in both 1984 and 1998. Their name means “Fathers” and is Spanish, referring to the founding fathers, no pun intended, of San Diego in 1769.
