James Galway has got to be the best. He has the best technique, the best sound, and it seems like he never has to breathe!!! I am a brass player and, stereotypically, I don't care for flutes, but he makes me want to change my mind :).

In 1997, Galway was named Musician of the Year, which is a great feat. He achieved the Grand Prix du Disque for his performance of Mozart Concerti on one of his recordings. Queen Elizabeth honored him twice, the second time granting him knighthood. There's so much more, but I think this lets you know how good he is.
