Bill Cosby - If you don’t put the Coz at the top of this list, you don’t fully appreciate what this man did for both entertainment and for destroying negative racial stereotypes for an entire generation. History will exalt his legacy as far more important than anyone has ever imagined, and on top of that, he’s one of the greatest storytellers the planet has known.

Richard Pryor - Richard shouldn’t have been known for the issues that kept him in the public eye. Substance abuse problems plagued his life and peppered his material, but this salty comedian was an absolutely amazing communicator. Impure genius.

Redd Foxx - I grew up thinking his name was Fred Sanford. It was a shock when I heard his standup material for the first time. His style, his voice, his perspective, our treasure.

Eddie Murphy - Forget Eddie’s family films of the present day. I remember the Eddie whose standup films made it into theaters which was unheard of at the time. His material touched a nerve and had an edge that nobody else at the time could touch. But how could you be offended by Axel Foley? The Beverly Hills Cop franchise made him A-list untouchable, and that’s what I see when I think of Eddie.

Bernie Mac - It’s tragic when we lose someone so creative before he has a chance to create his best work. Some people become great in an exaggerated memory after their death. Bernie’s not great because he’s gone, he’s great because he just was.

Sherman Hemsley - Tossed aside with JJ Walker and Re-Run, this 70's icon deserves more credit than he's ever received. Whether it was the "Jeffersons" or "Amen", they were both the Sherman Hemsley show. Nobody could slam a door and throw a fit like Sherman. He succumbed to playing unlikable characters but you couldn't help but like him. Always in charge, ready to throw down, Sherman still makes me laugh.

Kenan Thompson - I’m gonna go on a limb here to predict that Kenan Thompson (currently on SNL) will go on to be one of the greatest comedians of all time. I’m so glad that Loren Michaels rescued this youngster from Nickelodeon and gave him a stage. He’s genuinely one of the most hilarious people alive today.

The list of legends goes on:
Dave Chapelle
Jamie Foxx
Chris Rock
Flip Wilson
Martin Lawrence
Steve Harvey
Whoppi Goldberg
Chris Tucker
Will Smith
Wanda Sykes
No’Nique
Tracy Morgan
Cedric the Entertainer
Tommy Davidson
Damon Wayans
