I'm going to second the greatness of Jack Daniels. Smooth tasting and great to drink in sips and shots. Mixes will for the famous Jack & Coke drink, and JD can be mixed with other drinks like Snapple or Arizona iced Tea for a fun drink to have with you when you're with friends partying or something.

And here's a video on making Jack & Coke from the American Bartenders School.

JD is also great to cook with for JD and beans when camping, to pie, to dipping sauces.

I must step up and say Jack Daniels is the best whiskey I know.

Other brands may be smoother, stronger, or more of something else. But Jack mixes great (Jack&Coke), goes straight, can be shot or sipped, and has a kick without being too rough. I will try several things, but I've always preferred it.

Johnny Walker Black Label - Scotch Whiskey.
Aged to perfection, an excellent scotch, and wonderful taste.
That is my drink of choice, with some club soda...

Jack Daniels is an alright Whiskey in my opinion. I do think it's a bit too sweet and the hangover is a SOB. It has also been made popular by movies and such. My whiskey of choice for the price is Jameson Irish Whiskey. Jameson is a bit smoother than Jack and goes for around the same price. Give it a shot! :-)

ps give the 12 year old a try you won't be disappointed.
