Which wines go best with soup?
Does the type of soup dictate which wine to serve? Where can I find more information about soup and wines?

Hello @palms!
Pairing soups with wine can be a little tricky but by looking at the ingredients of soups then the task of pairing soup with wine will be easier. For example, a bowl of chili soup has common ingredients that include tomatoes, beans and ground beef so it would be best to pair this with a wine that is less acidic and has lighter tannin content. If the chili beans has more beans or meat then you should look for a wine that has more body and strength like a Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz or Malbec.
Here are some pairings:
*Chicken noodles soup is best paired with Pinot Noir or a Chenin Blanc
*Cream of chicken soup would be best with a Sauvignon Blanc or Viognier.
*Gumbo should be paired with Pinot Noir.
*French onion soup will be great if paired with French Beaujolais or Beaujolais Nouveau or perhaps with a White Burgundy.
*If you are serving Seafood Bisque or Stew better grab a Sauvignon Blanc
*Chicken Tortilla Soup will be best appreciated if paired with Spanish wine like a Rioja.
*New England Clam Chowders needs a Chardonnay
*Corn chowder is best paired with Germain Riesling
*Beef stew with vegetables would go best with a Cab, Shiraz or Gewurtztraminer.
