Which was first- Ebay or Amazon?

Your three questions are significantly different, so I’ll focus on the primary question of which was first – Amazon.com or eBay. Both Amazon.com and eBay debuted in 1995, but Amazon was first by launching their website in July of 1995 versus eBay’s September launch.
Amazon began after Jeff Bezos left a job on Wall Street to evaluate some ideas he had about which products could sell well online. After much analysis, he narrowed the list down to several key items (CDs, computer hardware, computer software, videos and books). It didn’t take long for Amazon (which launched as “Cadabra”) to become the leader in the industry. EBay was launched by Pierre Omidyar out of his house and quickly expanded from there. After a few years of success, Omidyar (and his business partner Jeff Skoll) brought in Meg Whitman to run the business.
