Which television cartoons use anime?

Are there television show cartoons that use anime and what cartoons are they? Are both films and television shows that are anime shown in the United States, Japan and other countries?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Anime is short for animation and is a genre of cartoon from Japan intended for adults, although this doesn’t mean that new Anime shows have to come from Japan, that’s just where the movement originated. So, there can’t really be anime ‘films’ as film implies a live action production (except perhaps in cases of mixed media where cartoons are mixed with live action or else a film remake of a popular anime) Anime can be hand drawn cartoons or computer rendered cartoons, and are often used in advertising or video games, especially by the Japanese.

“Genre” may be a misnomer on my part because I certainly don’t want to imply that all animes follow similar story lines. Anime stories are as diverse as any other form of entertainment and many have very dark or adult themes while others are more fun and cute.

Anime can be found in most countries but in America it’s easiest to find them online, on disc, or late at night on Adult Swim. If you’re interested in watching an anime but don’t know where to start, I’d suggest either Nickelodeon’s Avatar, the Last Airbender, which is a fairly fun show and very family-friendly or Funimation’s Fullmetal Alchemist, which is more adult but still doesn't get very dark or show a lot of scantily clad women (anime is notorious for this).

Fullmetal Alchemist has two versions, “FMA: Brotherhood” which follows the original manga (Japanese comic) and another which is more Americanized and does not hold true to the original story for very long, and “FMA: Brotherhood” which follows the original manga (Japanese comic) and is darker than its first incarnation. You can find either of these animes (and many more) online at http://www.fun-world.co.nr/ for free. Funimation also hosts both versions on www.youtube.com but they are subtitled in English with Japanese voice acting.
