The state is sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, and attached to the United States mainland by an isthmus border with Georgia and Alabama. Although Alaska, with a coastline longer than all other states combined, is also a notable peninsula state, it is attached to Canada by a much larger isthmus.
However, peninsula is not unit of measurement. So, a piece of land is either a peninsula or not a peninsula, and the degree to which it is or is not a peninsula can not change.
