Which site has better message boards, IGN or GameFAQs?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They're both good for different things. The GameFAQs boards are good for finding help if you're stuck in a game, but they're also frequented by people who aren't very mature.

The IGN boards tend to be more mature, but there's less helpful information.

So if you want help with a game, I'd say go with GameFAQs. If you want to have a mature discussion about a game, I'd say IGN

I always go straight to GameFAQs, simply because there's usually a ton more information available that is also more easily accessible. In addition to the boards, there's FAQs and cheats just a click away. Yes, IGN also has those things but there's not a link to them directly from the boards. And, most importantly, I find it easier to do a search on GameFAQs than on IGN. No browsing through pages of inapplicable posts.

GameFAQs also separates the boards based on console. This can be a pro and a con at the same time. On one side, you'll be reading posts that only pertain to your specific console. On the other side, some problems are not console specific and the answer you're searching for might be on the PS3 board...when you're looking on the Xbox board!

The IGN boards are impossible to search, while the GameFAQs boards are ingeniously simple to search. The GameFAQs boards I also find hilarious. Especially when gamers are frustrated or hate something. Always wonderful reads on there. I defy you to read 10 threads and not laugh at something.

Personally, I find the IGN boards slow, and boring. They also are not as granular as GameFAQs. i.e., there is no "The Simpsons Game" message board on IGN; you're left with just the general "The Simpsons" board, which encompasses the show as well.

I'd say they're both pretty bad communities, but at least GameFAQs has a lot of knowledgeable people when it comes to actually playing the games. While IGN has a lot of people who are more into the culture of games. But I rarely read either board for actual discussions.

My 10 year old son says IGN is the best site for video game information.
