Which should my pal buy, a MacBook @ 1599 or MBPro @ 1999? I can't see much difference other than 13 to 15 in screen & video card
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

- MacBook Pro has FireWire 800 port - good for video editing or external hard drive that uses FireWire port. Please note, the FireWire port is FireWire 800 instead of the old one. Some video camera might have compatibility issue.
- MacBook Pro has ExpressCard/34 slot. The ExpressCard slot is handy for high speed modem (3G) card amongst others.
For ports information, please refer to the images below.
Top = Macbook
Bottom = Macbook Pro

Would you recommend the pro over the other? Here is the situation to help make the call
My friend plans on this being a second system with his iMac handling all the heavy lifting. He told me he wants a solid box that he can use for word processing and the random trips he takes with family. He also likes playing WoW but doesn't want to spend time away from the family in another room to simply fish, etc. in WoW.
All of his external drives are USB2.0 (If what he told me is right) and he has a newer camera with both USB and Firewire, but doubts he'd ever dump video to it as he uses MiniDV tapes.
With that info, is the pro worth him spending another 400 on or would it be better to save the money and buy more ram and/or a larger hard drive?
If he has no FireWire devices that he wants to use, save the money and get the MacBook instead. MacBook is travel friendly too as it weighs 4.5 pounds instead of heavier Pro at 5.5 pounds. For WoW, I think it runs fine according to the following video posted at YouTube. Further, from what you advised, it sounds like MacBook would be his secondary device and iMac is his primary computer.
