Which phone should I buy from Sprint when I renew my contract this week?
I want to have a phone that allows me to download and view .pdf files and word .doc files (similar to the iPhone).
Connecting and browsing the internet would be nice too.
Which phone do people recommend?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

They're by the same company that made the new G1, and they are way cooler and have many of the same features as the iphone. The touch pro even has a slide-out qwerty keyboard.
Also available is the new BlackBerry 88130, and the blackberry curve. They both get great reviews, and are a bit cheaper. See all of your options here:

M$My friend has a htc diamond and loves it. However any of the pda phones would work that they have for what you seem to be looking for.
I personally have a blackberry curve and it does the pdf and the word to go which I love I have it with TMobile but its the same thing as what they offer at Sprint and Sprint offers a in depth Blackberry support team if you ever have any issues, which is nice.
Hope this helps

M$I agree. I have Sprint and when I go into the shop to pay my bills or what-have-you the repair line is always filled with instincts and the workers seem to kind of have that "oh this again" attitude.
I like my palm treo. the keyboard is a little small but it works for me.
I have an instinct and I hate it. It's like someone created a phone that mocks you every day by being a really crappy iPhone knock off.
I'd consider, if you need a more business-oriented phone, think about a BlackBerry. Lots of real power there that often goes overlooked. I know you can't edit any office documents without extra software (One suite goes for $150!), but I don't know what your options are if you only need to read files.
Talk to people at Howard Forums (give them a day or two, it seems their database has melted down. That's what they get for using IIS, I suppose). They've got sub-forums for Windows Mobile devices, specific manufacturers, different carriers, and even a forum specifically for comparing a couple of different phones and soliciting opinions. The people there are invaluable and having an account there will be well worth your time. 100% free, 100% useful, from purchasing, to plans, to software, to mods.

M$Watch the video of the N96 below.

M$That's not going to be any good. The N96 is a perfectly good phone (at this point, I'd recommend the N97), but the N96 is a GSM/UMTS phone, which is a cellular technology that is incompatible with the CDMA/WiMax network used by Sprint.
I looked on the Sprint website and it seems this phone isn't offered (in my area at least). Do you recommend anything else?
My real advice, however, is to just switch to AT&T and get an iPhone. You'll be glad you didn't settle for "sort of almost" an iPhone.

M$Do you happen to know if the the Instinct allows you to download and view .pdf and .doc files? I can't find that info online and the guy in the store didn't know.
Switching plans isn't an option, we get too good of a company discount with Sprint.
Well, is sounds like it actually can't open PDF files or .doc files from e-mail attachments. At least this article makes it sound that way: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/02/AR2008070202762.html?hpid=sec-tech
Or go even one step further and get a Hybrid sprint/nextel phone with DirecTalk which would allow Walkie Talkie like functionality for you and your family.
Just another option to look at if you want to go in depth.

I am going to throw my suggestion behind this post as well... I have used HTC handsets in the past and loved them. Just switched a month ago to a Blackberry (the new storm) love that as well. Both options would be wonderful choices for someone that is interested in a smart phone!
I have been looking at those. Do you happen to know if you can download .pdf and .doc with any of these phones? That ability is a deal-breaker for me.
Yes all the phones i mention open .pdf and .doc files. (forgot to mention that in the post) Thanks for being on the ball spoon!
.doc files can be handled by all HTC and Blackberry's without a problem. Same goes for .pdf (though you may need to download extra software to get that to work on these phones.
