What's the best online project management software?

Tip for best answer: M$1.11
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I recommend ProofHub. According to me it is great online project management software. ProofHub is a web based project management and collaboration software that helps you manage, schedule, discuss, work and communicate with clients and team.

Hi deepika10!

This question comes up in various forms with quite a bit of frequency, and it's a good one to ask because it exposes an even more important question, "What are your needs?".

IMO, asking, "What's the best online project management software?" is kind of like asking, "What's the best car?" There is no possible way to answer it without knowing some of your needs.

You have a range of options to choose from...but there is no way to determine what is "best" without knowing what you want to achieve, what your current strengths and deficits are, etc...

Does this make sense?

There's probably no single "best" for everyone. But I recently looked at some of the options, and I'll at least point you at some that are worth looking into.

Basecamp - A popular choice, esp with larger orgs. But the monthly subs are quite expensive.

http://basecamphq.com/

Feng Office - Also powerful, and can be free if you have your own server to host it on, as it is open source. There's also a hosted service which I think worked out a lot cheaper than Basecamp.

http://www.fengoffice.com/web/community/community_index.php

Pivotal Tracker - Free and good if you use "Agile" project management methods, and esp for agile software projects.

There are a ton of other ones, as you can see in these lists...

http://www.isoftwarereviews.com/open-source-project-management-software-applications/

But to save time and confusion, I'd start by looking at the three I mentioned.

As previous answers point out, there is no best project management software. Sure, there are popular solutions, but that is no incentive to go purchase them. You need to find what specifically fits your business as every business has dynamic needs.

My word of advice: If project management software is the first type of software you plan on using or if you already have other software applications, be warned. You will rack up this list of applications quite fast after realizing the power of these apps - but before you know it you'll have multiple and a hefty bill to pay too.

One way you can avoid this problem is by getting a total business management application. WORKetc combines CRM, project management, and billing into one application making it a complete business management system. You won't need to worry about having multiple applications or a lack of operational features with WORKetc.

WORKetc's features in comparison to other competitors are shown in the link.

I've used Microsoft project manager software. Used it mainly for project portfolio management. You can get microsoft project trial from website. It's the best software you can have ! Check this http://www.microsoft.com/project/en/us/try-buy.aspx
