Which is better - Avast or AVG? I had AVG but a virus took it - just checking to see what one people like?

Tip for best answer: M$0.35
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

- Both are good and have free version.
- Avast real time protection is better because it will try to catch Trojans even before finish downloading the file, but AVG will need to take some time.
- Avast implements VRDB (Virus Recovery Database), AVG don't.
- AVG free version has limited features compare to its pro version. Avast free edition is as powerful as its pro version.
- AVG will start a bit slower compare to Avast.
- AVG updates is a bit faster than Avast.
- Avast thorough scan mode is very slow.
- My experiences told my Avast can detect more viruses.

I have not used AVG, but have used AVAST for about two years now. It has always worked well for me and caught several viruses. I recommend it.

I also started with AVG. Then my whole computer got messed up with a virus. So I re-installed windows. and installed Avast. And i have had no problems. Avast has a user interface witch is a little difficult to follow at first. But there are directions once you install it.

Your other option is Anti-Vir. Which I myself havnt tried (because Avast works so well). But i have heard, in reviews, that Anti-Vir takes a long time to search for viruses, and it doesnt auto search...

As an internet cafe owner, I trust Avira Antivir more than Avast and AVG. Avira Antivir updates really fast and scans faster. It doesn't slow down your PC. Actually, I'm using the free version only of it and I like it so far. I have had many anti-virus programs in the past but only Avira Antivir has convinced me. You may also like to try it. Avast was OK, but a bit annoying to use. AVG has worked well for a while now.
However, with Microsoft Security Essentials out, its my #1.

I second MS Security Essentials. I've used Avast, AVG and most of the others.
MS Security Essentials is nice because A) it's from Microsoft B) there is no paid version so no upsell
Also MS Security essentials is getting pretty good reviews within the geek community.

That being said, it is behaviour more than AV software that will protect you from getting a virus. If you got infected with AVG (running and properly updated) then you will also get infected with Avast, Mcafee, MS Security Essentials, or anything else.
No P2P, no Porn, and no IE, and you could run without AV (I do).
