Which non-iPod MP3 player (or Personal Media Player) holds the most storage?

Tip for best answer: M$0.26
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I'm not sure if you are desiring hard disk based player or flash memory based. Hard disk players will wear out much faster than flash based, as they contain a very shock sensitive moving part. I would recommend flash, because none of us want to lose a player simply from dropping it. Flash based is lighter as well, but has traditionally had less storage capacity.

Well, as far as storage goes, we have a new breakthrough as of this year: 32GB micro SDHC flash memory! The world has been waiting on this for a long time. I just recently ordered one of these babies from SanDisk when they had a black friday special. This is the biggest microSDHC card out there, and it allows a greater expansion of storage to mp3 players, cell phones, and other electronic devices.

But, the microSDHC card is useless without a player, so we need one of those. I have done an EXTENSIVE search for the mp3 players that actually will make me happy. I want a good interface, good battery life, decent internal storage, and expandable storage. I have found the winner, perhaps THE ultimate mp3 player available on the market. Ironically, it's one of the least expensive!

The Sansa FUZE v2

Specs: Full specs at http://www.sandisk.com/products/sansa-music-and-video-players/sandisk-sansa-fuze

Made by SanDisk, makers of flash memory.
Inexpensive.
1.9" Color Screen
Plays audio, video, and photos
8GB internal memory
microSDHC expansion slot (add up to 32GB storage to the player)
24 hour battery life (audio) 5 hour for video
VERY clear audio (in my opinion)
internal microphone to record lecture, etc.
FM radio (you can also record radio broadcasts)
YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE iTunes OR WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER TO PUT STUFF ON YOUR PLAYER. Set to MSC mode under USB mode and your Fuze shows up like a USB flash drive. This is about the ONLY player to have this important feature.
RockBox Capable (if the standard features aren't enough for you)

I recently picked up a second Fuze from Toys-r-us during black friday for $50 (You can find these normally in the $60's, and they are worth more than what they cost).

Also if you would like the full 40GB player I'm describing, pick up a 32 GB microSDHC card ASAP from Sandisk at: http://shop.sandisk.com/store/sdiskus/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/productID.182914100

Enter sdthanks10 as a promo code and you will reduce your cost to $56.69 shipped! The 75% discount ends soon, so I would recommend ordering ASAP.

If you need a further resource for comparison shopping, I recommend anythingbutipod.com.

Here are a few images. The second is a screenshot from a RockBoxed Fuze, which allows you to customize EVERYTHING including free downloadable themes. I'm new to Rockbox, but from my 1 day using it, it totally rocks. I hope this helps your quest for the best mp3 player.
