There are conflicting views about Jesus’ credentials. The Jews do not accept him as Messiah yet there are scriptures in the Old Testament that Jesus fulfilled making it clear to the Christians of his authenticity.
Prophesy taught
1. The Messiah was to be born at Bethlehem: Micah 5:1
2. The Messiah would be from the tribe of Judah: Genesis 49:10
3. The Messiah would present himself by riding on an ass: Zechariah 9:9
4. The Messiah would be tortured to death: Psalm 22
5. The Messiah would arrive before the destruction of the Second Temple: Daniel 9:24-27
6. The Messiah's life would match a particular description, including suffering, silence at his arrest and trial, death and burial in a rich man's tomb, and resurrection: Isaiah 52:13-53:12
Jesus matched the Messianic expectations of these scriptures. To trace the fulfillment of these scriptures one must read the New Testament account of Jesus. There are also several other factors to substantiate the Jesus’ Messiahship.
Jesus himself, said he was the Messiah in John 4:25-26 and worked many miracles of healing, bringing wholeness into people's lives, forgiving sin and restoring relationships. Finally, he foretold of his resurrection which is documented in Matthew 28:5-10.
Whatever you choose to believe, reading the Bible account of Jesus’ life and death with an open mind and heart gives you the foundation to make a decision about what you believe. The Bible tells us to seek and we shall find, knock and it shall be opened to us.
