Timothy Dalton provided the most realistic James Bond movies with Daniel Craig coming a close second.
Roger Moore's era of films consisted of the outlandish Moonraker and attempts at humor places him squarely last no matter how enjoyable his films were. Sean Connery's era relied on the villain mastermind who possessed enormous wealth or cunning. Pierce Brosnan played in an almost comic book super hero version of James Bond with witty one liners and spectacular escapes from dangerous situations.
Timothy Dalton played a realistic, gritty James Bond. One who sees his best friend mutilated, one who bleeds, and who seethes with anger. His realistic portrayal makes Bond seem more human rather than exaggerated.
