Which is worse? Knowing we are alone in the Universe or Knowing we are not alone in the Universe.

That depends on your assumptions. If you believe e.g. that sentient aliens are likely to be so xenophobic as to killing off any potential rivals, it may be far better to remain alone. If you believe that advanced civilizations are bound to be pacifistic or they'd destroy themselves before reaching the stars, believing we're not alone may be better. If you believe in a god that created the universe for humanity, finding alien cultures would deliver a blow to your belief system, which may make it better for you if we're alone (with G-d) in the universe. In any case, whichever it is, for practical reasons, it is probably best to know reality as it is, whether we are alone or not, rather than remain ignorant until reality knocks at our door.
